Staying Positive
How do you stay positive? When everything in life seems to conspire to kick you in the knackers, what do you do to stay upbeat?
I try to regard occasionally misery as a bit of a self indulgent treat. I wallow in it, then I get up and get on with the other stuff. It's a bit like eating chocolate, enough is fine but too much makes you sick.
While this sounds like something a tree hugger would say; you can choose how you feel, (clinical depression exempt of course) and feeling bad is as much of an active choice as feeling good or merely ho-hum. Ask yourself, if I have a choice then why would I choose to feel bad or ho-hum. Enjoy your choice and move on.

Being positive
I guess you can learn all sorts of things, but i suspect this one has a lot to do with one's upbringing and temprement. Most of my family tend to have a native, positive outlook; I know others where the reverse is true.
This is an entirely unscientific observation but I'm pretty convinced it is right.
